Today’s Photograph: Surf Sunrise (GB)

Bible Study Verse
Habakkuk 3:3b-4

His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. (NIV)

Thoughts
My favorite time to fish the surf is at sunrise. I love to wake up early and make my way down to the water. My wife and daughters usually miss the sunrise as they snooze away in the comfort of our beach house beds. But not me–I want to see the sun come up, taste those first rays of the morning sunlight, and smell the breeze as it begins to blow off of the ocean. I want to watch the dolphins come in to feed, and feel that first early morning shake on my line as the pompano and whiting come in for breakfast. The beach in northern Florida that we visit every Spring and Fall has a bit of a north-south turn to it. The sun actually seems to come right up out of the water. It is a beautiful, powerful, awe- inspiring sight. It doesn’t matter if the fish are biting. I simply enjoy watching the power of God as He wakes His creation each morning. (GB)

Action Point
The sunrise gives us a brief glimpse of the splendor and power of God. It is a unique time that people who hunt and fish are blessed to enjoy. While you watch vigilantly for your trophy buck or wait to set the hook on that monster fish, don’t forget to look up at the emerging light of sunrise and take a moment to speak a word of thanks to the Light of the world.

Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day
When fishing the surf at sunrise, don’t make the mistake of casting out too far. Make sure you fish one line close in to the beach. Table-fare fish tend to feed in the shallow trough close to the water’s edge. Small cuts of fresh shrimp fished on a light double-hook rig with a one-ounce end weight will often yield a cooler full of fish for supper.
